CREATOR WORKFLOW · VIDEO REPURPOSING

How to Turn a Long Video into Short Clips

Start with one recording and make one short clip that makes sense on its own. This workflow works for interviews, podcasts and tutorials.

1. Pick a recording and define the takeaway

Use footage you own or have permission to repurpose. Check guest permissions and any music, stock footage or other material used in the recording. Write down one thing a viewer should learn from the clip. That gives you a way to judge which cuts are worth keeping.

2. Find a moment that works on its own

Look for a question with a complete answer, a before-and-after moment or a practical tip with a clear payoff. Start where the topic is introduced. If the clip begins with “that’s why it works,” include enough of the previous sentence to explain what “it” means.

3. Generate candidates and review them

In OpusClip, start with your source recording and generate suggested clips. Watch each candidate before choosing one. Adjust the start and end so the speaker finishes the thought. In the editor, check the layout and adjust it where the crop cuts off a face, screen or key detail.

4. Check captions, framing and context

5. Export and adapt the post

Choose the aspect ratio and export settings for your destination. Check the exported file on your phone before posting. Write a title or caption that describes the takeaway. If you reuse the cut across platforms, check each preview and adjust the caption or crop where needed.

Example

Imagine a 30-minute interview about recording a podcast at home. One answer explains why moving the microphone closer can help reduce room noise. Keep the opening sentence that names the problem, the microphone demonstration and the final takeaway. This is an illustrative edit, so let the recording determine where the clip starts and ends.

This silent video shows the original excerpt, the rough cut, and the finished clip with context restored. The example above covers the same editing decision in text.
